In all the Vedic scriptures and texts, Lord Vishnu is described as holding a discus – ‘Sudarshan Chakra’ in one of his hands. There is a very interesting story around how Lord Vishnu got the Sudarshan Chakra, which we will read today.
Once the Gods led by Lord Vishnu worshipped and pleased Lord Shiva. Vishnu offered lotus flowers to Lord Shiva out of devotion and respect. Shiva decided to test Vishnu’s faith. Out of the many lotus flowers offered to Him, Shiva picked one flower and put that aside. Thus the number of flowers offered was short by one number. Vishnu noticed what had happened and He did not have an extra flower.
Lord Vishnu immediately pulled one of his eyes and presented that to Lord Shiva. Shiva was immensely pleased with Vishnu’s devotion. Shiva appeared before Him and returned His eye. He then presented His Sudarshan Chakra – the divine discuss as a gift to Vishnu.
